A Mongolian View

Our Shit Boxes have travelled to Mongolia as part of the Mongol Rally 2009. Bob Twells and Lee Tuffnell drove from Goodwood, UK to Ulanbataar, Mongolia in a Skoda and came 96th out of 550. We would like to congratulate them on their achievement and for using our trusty Shit Boxes to relieve them along the way.

Gotta love that view!

Golden Showers

New advertising campaign in Brazil encouraging it's citizens to conserve water by peeing in the shower. Brazilian environmental group SOS Mata Atlantica says the campaign, running on several television stations, uses humour to persuade people to reduce flushes. The group says if a household avoids one flush a day, it can save up to 4,380 litres (1,157 gallons) of water annually.

Recompute

Sustainable cardboard PC

Recompute; sustainable desktop computer

Brenden Macaluso's entry in the Greener Gadgets Design Competition from earlier in the year; the cardboard-housed Recompute

Recompute case is made of corrugated cardboard which is recyclable and renewable. There are four low-impact manufacturing processes in it's assembly: Die cutting, gluing (with non-toxic white glue), printing and electronic assembly. Recompute uses only three major electronic components: A motherboard with processor & memory, power supply, and a hard drive - it's cardboard housing means it can be disassembled without tools, so the electronics and case can be easily recycled individually.
